Accra, Ghana – The Country Director of the Ajinomoto Foundation/KOKO Plus Foundation in Ghana, Yusuke Takahashi, has reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to improving child nutrition through a strengthened partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

During a courtesy call on the Acting Director-General of GHS, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, discussions focused on expanding the Ghana Nutrition Improvement Project (GNIP), which promotes Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) using a market-based approach. The initiative aims to scale up the distribution of KOKO Plus, a nutritional supplement designed to enhance the health of children across Ghana.

The meeting highlighted key areas of collaboration, including enhancing the foundation’s partnership with GHS to improve child nutrition outcomes and expanding the GNIP nationwide to ensure a broader reach and greater impact. They also discussed reviewing and updating the existing Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to align with the evolving goals of the project. Additionally, both parties explored ways to showcase the project’s achievements on international platforms such as the Nutrition for Growth Summit and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), demonstrating Ghana’s progress in tackling child malnutrition.

Another critical point of discussion was the African Health and Wellbeing Initiative (AfHWIN), which aims to strengthen collaboration between Ghana and Japan to contribute to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in a sustainable manner. The partnership between the Ajinomoto Foundation/KOKO Plus Foundation and GHS continues to serve as a model for public-private cooperation in advancing child nutrition and ensuring sustainable healthcare interventions in Ghana
