Ayensuano District Marks World Malaria Day with Colorful Celebration in Dokrochiwa

The Ayensuano District joined the global community in commemorating World Malaria Day with a vibrant and educational event held in Dokrochiwa. The celebration began with a community float through the town and surrounding villages to raise awareness on malaria prevention and control, culminating in a durbar at the Dokrochiwa Community Center.
The event brought together traditional authorities, local government representatives, and health officials. Dignitaries included Berima Opoku Agyeman, Larteh Chief and chairman of the event; Berima Ogyea Ahoho Anum, Chief of Dawu; and Ohemaa Appiatu Odonkor III. They were joined by the local Assemblyman, Unit Committee members, heads of district departments, and the District Director of Health Services, Mr. Francis Kuotua Aprugu, along with his management team.
In his opening address, Berima Opoku Agyeman lauded the Health Directorate for selecting Dokrochiwa as the host community and urged residents to keep their surroundings clean to help reduce mosquito breeding and fight malaria.
Delivering the keynote speech, Mr. Aprugu highlighted the burden of malaria both globally and within the district. He emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders and the importance of early medical intervention in reducing malaria-related illnesses and deaths.
Mr. Solomon Antwi Brefo, the District Disease Control Officer, conducted a sensitization session on malaria symptoms, prevention methods, and the correct use of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs).
Adding a lively touch to the event, students from the Presby and Methodist Junior High Schools performed a drama and recited a poem centered on the theme of malaria prevention.
The celebration concluded with a free health screening for residents, sponsored by Arc Development Organization, a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting malaria prevention efforts in the district.
