Cancer Patients Left Stranded as Oncology Department Staff Strike at KATH**
Patients seeking cancer treatment at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi faced distress yesterday as the Oncology department staff initiated a strike. The walkout left numerous patients, including children, without access to critical medical care, as no doctors were available to attend to them.
The strike has sparked anxiety and frustration among the affected patients and their families.
The Oncology department staff are protesting due to a malfunctioning radiotherapy machine, which they assert has significantly impeded their ability to provide proper treatment. In an interview with OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, distressed patients urgently called on hospital management and the government to resolve the issue promptly, ensuring that the striking staff can return to their duties.
"We are desperate for help," one tearful patient implored. "We urge the government to intervene and resolve this matter swiftly."
Hospital management has requested the striking staff to resume work while efforts are made to address their grievances.
