Kpone, Ghana – In a significant boost to Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure, His Excellency Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, today officially commissioned the newly constructed 40-bed Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Hospital. The state-of-the-art facility, funded by the Czech government at a cost of €71 million, is expected to greatly improve access to quality healthcare services for residents of Kpone and surrounding communities.

The commissioning ceremony, held in Kpone, was attended by high-ranking government officials, including Ghana’s Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Akweley Ocloo. Also present was Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service. In his address, Prof. Akoriyea highlighted the long-term health and economic benefits of the facility for the local population. He commended the strong partnership between Ghana and the Czech Republic, stressing the importance of community involvement in maintaining the hospital. He also called for sustained investments in health infrastructure to build a resilient system capable of meeting future challenges.

The Minister of Health, Hon. Akandoh, and Regional Minister Ocloo both reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening healthcare delivery across the country. They reiterated Ghana’s commitment to completing all ongoing health projects and achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030. Both officials urged the Kpone community to take ownership of the facility to ensure its sustainability.

The commissioning marks a major milestone in Ghana’s efforts to expand its healthcare infrastructure and strengthen international partnerships for national development.
