As part of her two-day official visit to Ghana, Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, led a high-level delegation to the Gomoa East District Health Directorate in the Central Region to assess ongoing immunization and child health services.

Accompanied by Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, along with representatives from Alliance partners including the World Health Organization (WHO) Ghana and UNICEF Ghana, Dr. Nishtar visited St. Gregory Catholic Hospital in Buduburam and an outreach immunization post in Oyinase, Kasoa Nyanyano.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage directly with health workers and community members while observing the delivery of child health and immunization services. Dr. Nishtar lauded Ghana’s progress in expanding vaccine coverage and reiterated Gavi’s continued support for the country’s immunization and malaria prevention efforts.

“Gavi remains committed to supporting Ghana in its mission to ensure equitable access to life-saving vaccines,” Dr. Nishtar said.

In his remarks, Prof. Akoriyea expressed deep appreciation for Gavi’s sustained support and emphasized Ghana’s commitment to ensuring that every child receives the full complement of essential vaccines.

The visit underscores the strong collaboration between Gavi, the Ghana Health Service, and international partners in strengthening healthcare delivery and boosting immunization rates across the country.
