Ghana Airports Company Donates Dialysis Machines and Funds Treatment for 50 Patients at Korle Bu
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has made a significant contribution to the dialysis care services at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by donating two dialysis machines and their accessories, valued at over 2 million Ghana cedis. This donation is intended to support the management of end-stage kidney failure patients, helping to alleviate some of the current pressures on the hospital’s dialysis services.
During the presentation, Mrs. Yvonne Opare, Managing Director of GACL, highlighted that this donation is part of the company's corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at addressing challenges within the Dialysis Unit. She further announced that GACL would fully cover the treatment costs for 50 dialysis patients over the course of one month, offering critical support to individuals in need.
Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, Acting CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed gratitude to GACL and appealed for additional support from other corporate entities, emphasizing that "health is a shared responsibility." He noted that such partnerships are essential as the hospital alone cannot meet the growing healthcare demands. Professor Vincent Boima, Head of the Dialysis Unit, also expressed appreciation and shared insights into the operational strains faced by the unit, with increasing numbers of patients placing considerable demands on the dialysis machines.
This donation by GACL is expected to positively impact the Dialysis Unit, enhancing patient care and addressing some of the immediate needs of those with end-stage kidney disease.
