The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has alerted the public to a recent uptick in COVID-19 infections across the nation.

According to GHS reports, approximately 31 new COVID-19 cases have been detected in Ghana over the past week.

Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, Programme Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization at GHS, assured journalists in Accra that none of the newly diagnosed individuals are in critical condition.

Addressing concerns about the spike in cases, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano emphasized that COVID-19 has become endemic and occasional outbreaks should be anticipated.

He stated, "COVID has come to stay with us. It is part of us. And so, from time to time when we look, we would find it.”

To address the ongoing situation, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano announced a nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

He elaborated, "From 5th to 9th May, we are going to do another exercise of COVID vaccination known as the National COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise (NCVE) as part of strategies to reduce COVID to the barest immune.”

The GHS encourages the public to participate in the vaccination exercise as part of efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Ghana.
