Ghana Marks World Malaria Day 2025 with Renewed Call for Action

Ghana commemorated World Malaria Day 2025 with a national event held at the Dome of Christ Temple East in Teshie, Ledzokuku Municipality. This year’s celebration was themed “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite”, reflecting the nation’s commitment to ending the disease through innovation and inclusive community efforts.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Health, the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, highlighted significant progress made in the fight against malaria. He noted that Ghana has achieved a 97% reduction in malaria-related deaths over the past decade, a milestone he attributed to collaborative efforts and sustained investment. Prof. Akoriyea urged for renewed community ownership and multi-sectoral investment to fully eliminate malaria.
In a move towards inclusivity, he also announced the appointment of persons with disabilities as ambassadors in all public health campaigns—part of a broader strategy to ensure a more people-led and inclusive health response.
A key highlight of the event was the National Malaria Quiz Competition, held earlier this month. Winners were honored at the ceremony, with Holy Child R/C Basic School taking the top prize, and accolades presented to the first and second runners-up.
The event served as a rallying point for stakeholders to come together and reaffirm their commitment to a malaria-free Ghana, built on innovation, ownership, and reinvestment.
