The Ghana AIDS Commission has raised alarms over troubling statistics from its 2023 National HIV Report, indicating that approximately 50 new HIV infections occur each day in Ghana. Additionally, it is estimated that over 218,000 individuals are unaware of their HIV-positive status.

At present, more than 152,000 people are receiving anti-retroviral therapy (ART). This group comprises 36,000 male adults, 109,000 female adults, and 5,000 children.

These figures threaten the Commission's goal, alongside its partners, of achieving an HIV epidemic-free nation. Of particular concern is the high infection rate among economically active individuals aged 15 to 49 in Accra.

The national adult HIV prevalence for 2023 stands at 1.53%, with an estimated 334,095 people living with HIV, including 316,545 adults (94.7%) and 17,550 children (5.3%).

For adults aged 15 to 49, the HIV incidence rate in 2023 is estimated at 0.09%, with 17,774 new infections (90.4% adults and 9.6% children) and 12,480 AIDS-related deaths projected.
