This week, a multidisciplinary team drawn from various divisions of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), including the Health Promotion Division, Institutional Care Division, IT Department, Public Relations Unit, and Human Resource & Development Division, has joined forces with representatives from the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and UNICEF Ghana to design disability inclusion modules for the GHS E-Learning Platform.

The new training modules aim to equip healthcare providers with the necessary knowledge and skills to promote disability inclusion within healthcare settings. This includes fostering appropriate interactions with persons with disabilities, using inclusive language, and integrating inclusive practices into everyday healthcare delivery.

The initiative, supported by UNICEF, is part of a broader health system innovation strategy. It underscores Ghana’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and responsive to the needs of all citizens, including persons with disabilities.

Officials say the modules will enhance the capacity of health professionals nationwide and help institutionalize inclusive practices across the healthcare system.

“This collaboration marks a significant step toward a more equitable health system, where no one is left behind,” said a GHS representative. “We are proud to partner with GFD and UNICEF in this important work.”
