Government Signals Nationwide Housing Initiative for Primary Healthcare Workers
The government is currently in discussions with various private sector entities to establish housing facilities for primary healthcare workers across Ghana. This announcement was made by Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Presidential Advisor on Health, during the Primary Health Care Series event. The series was organized by the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative at KNUST in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation.
Dr. Nsiah-Asare shared, "We are in talks with numerous private companies that have expressed interest. Soon, you will witness the commencement of these projects. They will be distributed nationwide," he said with optimism.
Highlighting Ghana's strides towards universal healthcare, Dr. Nsiah-Asare remarked, "People will understand that they are accountable not just to authorities in Accra, but also to their local communities."
He stressed the significance of enhancing health insurance to include fundamental primary healthcare services and underscored the necessity of local production of medical supplies.
"We import most of our drugs and medical consumables. This situation is unsustainable," he pointed out.
Dr. Mrs. Princess Ruhama Acheampong, Liaison Officer of the Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative at KNUST, expressed their commitment to supporting government efforts to bolster the primary healthcare sector.
