Accra, Ghana – The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced plans to collaborate with the government to purchase additional dialysis machines for public hospitals to enhance kidney treatment services across the country.

Dr. Aboagye DaCosta, Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, emphasized the Authority's commitment to ensuring that basic health services are accessible to all citizens. Speaking to journalists on Monday, June 3, Dr. DaCosta detailed the NHIA’s support program for kidney patients undergoing dialysis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which has recently been initiated.

"The government has a clear sustainability plan, which will be unveiled soon," Dr. DaCosta stated. "This plan includes supporting some facilities with dialysis machines and exploring other forms of renal treatment. It is a comprehensive approach that will serve as a learning opportunity for us to improve our healthcare initiatives."

The NHIA's support program aims to alleviate the burden on renal patients and ensure that they receive necessary treatments. Dr. DaCosta highlighted that the government's strategy not only focuses on immediate needs but also on long-term solutions to improve the healthcare infrastructure for kidney patients.

The rollout of this program at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital marks the beginning of broader efforts to address kidney health issues nationwide. By equipping more hospitals with dialysis machines, the NHIA and the government hope to make lifesaving treatments more accessible and reduce the strain on existing facilities.

As the sustainability plan is unveiled, further details on the allocation of resources and the implementation of additional support measures will be shared with the public. The NHIA remains dedicated to improving health outcomes and ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to essential medical services.
