Grnma In Partnership With Ghana Nurse-midwife Trainees Association Visits Nursing Training Colleges In Greater Accra Region

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA-GAR), Mr. Prince Opuni Frimpong led a team of other regional executives, GNMTA executives and GRNMA south zonal youth committee representative, Mr. Djan Yeboah to visit selected nursing and midwifery training colleges in a-two-day working tour (15-16th February,2023).
During a presentation by Mr. Opuni Frimpong, he enlightened the students on the history of the association, vision and mission, processes of becoming a member, benefits, welfare packages etc. He further entreated them to be discipline, study hard and do well to pass all their exams at one attempt.
The Executives of GNMTA also took turns to enumerate on the need for students to channel their grievances through the appropriate quarters and ensure they stick with GRNMA upon completion, as it is the only association that keeps advocating and ensures employment of nurses and midwives.
They further reiterated the efforts being made by GRNMA to ensure payment of their over 13 months of unpaid allowances by the government.
Key among of the concerns raised by the students during the open forum session for immediate intervention of the association are as follows;
1. Payment of monies at various in-service training units before they are allowed to start their vacation practicum
2. Buying of medical gloves and tissues before their clinical schedule books are endorsed by various ward managers.
3. Frequent sending of students on personal errands like buying of food for staff.
4. No free medical care for students on clinical practices.
5. Non-payment of student allowances by government.
Mr Opuni Frimpong and the other regional executives responded appropriately to the concerns of the students with the strongest indication of efforts made by the association to addressed them. The schools visited were NMTC Korle-Bu, Public Health Nurses Training School, Korle-Bu, NMTC Teshie, NMTC Pantang and NTC Pantang.
