Health Minister Pays Surprise Visit to Ridge Hospital, Urges Improved Equipment Maintenance

The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, alongside the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, made an unannounced familiarisation visit to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH), Ridge, as part of efforts to assess service delivery and facility conditions firsthand.
The high-level delegation, which included senior officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, toured critical departments such as the Medical Imaging Services and Emergency Wards. The visit aimed to evaluate operations and inspect the state of vital equipment.
After the facility tour, the Minister held a closed-door meeting with the hospital’s management. Speaking to the media afterward, he expressed concern over the poor maintenance of essential medical equipment. He encouraged the hospital to prioritize the use of internally generated funds for timely repairs and maintenance.
Hon. Akandoh also announced plans to convene a meeting with heads of public medical facilities to address broader challenges facing the health sector. He called on healthcare workers to remain dedicated to their duties and hinted at more unannounced visits in the near future to help ensure quality service delivery.
The Greater Accra Regional Hospital has been in the public spotlight in recent days, and the Minister’s visit was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the issues on the ground.
