Ho Municipal Hospital Commemorates World Emergency Medicine Day with Road Accident Simulation

To mark World Emergency Medicine Day, observed globally on May 27, Ho Municipal Hospital organized a high-impact road traffic accident simulation exercise to test and strengthen its emergency response systems.
Spearheaded by the hospital’s Accident & Emergency Unit in collaboration with the Ghana Ambulance Service – Volta Region and other key stakeholders, the simulation aimed to assess the readiness of emergency teams, evaluate triage and casualty management, and identify critical gaps in disaster preparedness.
The staged multi-vehicle accident occurred near the Stadium Gate Shopping Mall, close to Parks and Gardens, and involved multiple simulated casualties. Nurses from the hospital played the role of injured victims, presenting varying degrees of trauma to test real-time response protocols.
The exercise demonstrated strong coordination and teamwork among emergency responders. Observers noted several key takeaways, including the need for:
-
Regular refresher training sessions
-
Improved radio communication systems
-
Enhanced internal alert mechanisms
Dr. Frimpong, the Emergency Doctor-in-Charge, commended the initiative, emphasizing its effectiveness in evaluating the hospital’s response capacity. He highlighted the critical lessons learned, which will contribute to refining emergency protocols and boosting overall preparedness.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of timely and coordinated emergency care in saving lives.
