Holy Child R/C Basic School Wins Maiden National Malaria Inter-School Quiz

Holy Child R/C Basic School in the Tema West Municipality has emerged victorious in the inaugural National Malaria Inter-School Quiz, an initiative of the Service, in collaboration with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The competition, which took place today at Accra Technical University, was part of the 2025 World Malaria Day celebrations. Schools from districts in the Greater Accra region, nearing malaria elimination, participated after qualifying at the district level.
In a fiercely contested final, Holy Child R/C Basic School outperformed Nii Kojo Ababio Basic School and Dansoman "2" Basic School to claim the top prize. The winning team, represented by Ewurabena Oppong Kyekyeku and Michelle Adu Gyamfi, showcased their deep understanding of malaria elimination strategies, impressing the panel of judges.
The event offered a range of prizes, including laptops, tablets, and scientific calculators for the contestants, while schools received educational materials and sanitation supplies.
Key figures in the event included Mr. John Ranson, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, and national malaria champion Oheneyere Gifty Anti, who stressed the critical role young people play in the fight for a malaria-free Ghana.
The quiz is set to become an annual event, designed to raise awareness and advocate for malaria elimination across the country.
