The Kadjebi District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has kicked off the 10th National COVID-19 Vaccination Day (NACVAD) in Kadjebi, located in the Oti Region of [Ghana].

The primary objective of the campaign is to target populations who have not yet been vaccinated or are under-vaccinated, particularly individuals aged 18 and above. Notably, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and critically ill individuals are exempt from participation. The vaccination drive is scheduled to run from May 5 to May 9, 2024.

Mr. Derrick Jack Atitsu, Coordinator of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), revealed that the Kadjebi District has already administered 68,992 doses of various approved COVID-19 vaccines, including AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, and J & J. Despite this, only 68.7% of the target population has received at least one dose, with 56.8% fully vaccinated.

For the 10th NACVAD, the district aims to vaccinate 1,500 individuals across 178 communities spanning five sub-districts. The vaccination strategy includes a house-to-house approach, with vaccination centers set up at key locations such as healthcare facilities, market squares, churches, and social gatherings.

Mr. Atitsu urged community members to seize the opportunity to get vaccinated and protect themselves against COVID-19. Additionally, Mr. John Sonnyinado Baffoe, District Disease Surveillance Officer, emphasized the importance of heightened surveillance for Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) and encouraged prompt reporting.

Mrs. Mabel Amankwa-Amoah, Kadjebi District Health Promotion Officer, highlighted ongoing engagement with local leaders and the use of various communication channels such as radio announcements, community information centers, and traditional gong-gong beating to disseminate information about the vaccination drive.

The Initiative underscores the district’s commitment to achieving widespread vaccination coverage and combating the spread of COVID-19 within the community.
