The Mental Health Authority (MHA) team held a crucial meeting today with Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the newly appointed Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), to discuss potential areas of collaboration in promoting mental health awareness and improving service delivery across the country.

The discussions highlighted the importance of unity among stakeholders in advancing mental health initiatives. One of the main topics covered was strengthening the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MHA and GHS to ensure better coordination and resource sharing.

In addition, the meeting touched on the need for a policy on maternal mental health, the possibility of seconding staff to mental health facilities, and key awareness initiatives such as the "Go Purple" campaign scheduled for May.

Prof. Akoriyea expressed his commitment to fostering a stronger relationship between MHA and GHS, stressing the importance of addressing communication gaps and enhancing the overall quality of service delivery in the mental health sector.

The collaboration signals a positive step toward improving mental health care in Ghana, with a focus on holistic approaches that benefit both individuals and communities.
