Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, the Minister of Health, has handed over more than 40 pickup trucks to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to enhance the mobility and operational efficiency of healthcare workers nationwide.

During the presentation ceremony on July 5, 2024, Dr. Okoe Boye underscored the commitment of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration to improving healthcare infrastructure.

"This morning's ceremony may be simple, but it holds great importance. Our focus is on impact rather than fanfare, which is why there are no elaborate setups," he stated. "The Akufo-Addo government is dedicated to equipping and upgrading Ghana’s healthcare delivery systems, which includes supporting the Ghana Health Service."

He emphasized the vital role of the Ghana Health Service in the public healthcare sector, noting, "Today, we present over 40 pickups to the Ghana Health Service, a key player in our healthcare system. The GHS is instrumental in public healthcare delivery, managing hospitals, health centers, and CHPS compounds across the country."

Dr. Okoe Boye highlighted the practical uses of these vehicles, explaining, "These pickups will facilitate the transportation of medicines, enable doctors to travel for outreach programs, and help district directors reach remote areas to ensure vaccine delivery and monitor healthcare services. On behalf of President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Health, I am pleased to present these vehicles to the Ghana Health Service to further healthcare delivery in the country."

Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, expressed his gratitude for the donation, assuring that the vehicles will significantly enhance the institution's operations.

"Ghana Health Service operates in all 261 districts, managing around 8,000 facilities nationwide. These vehicles will help us mobilize staff, reach communities, and provide essential services at CHPS compounds and outreach centers," he said. "This donation will be particularly beneficial in remote areas, ensuring that healthcare delivery is improved at all levels, especially at the primary care level."

This donation is historic, marking the first time the Ghana Health Service has received such a substantial number of vehicles from the ministry.
