Ministry of Health Denies HIV Drug Seizure at Tema Port
The Ministry of Health has denied claims that containers at the Tema port are holding essential Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS medications. This clarification comes after health-focused Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) expressed concerns about potential funding and donation cuts from the Global Fund if the containers were not cleared.
In response to the CSOs' allegations that vital drugs were languishing at the port, Isaac Offei Baah, Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Health, explained that the containers in question actually hold mosquito nets.
"I want to make it clear that we have mosquito nets at the port, not HIV or TB drugs," Mr. Baah stated.
He reassured the public that the ministry is actively distributing the mosquito nets. "Since these items have been provided for the people of Ghana, we are working on distributing them effectively," he added.
Baah also stressed that all HIV drugs have been cleared from the port. "To clarify, there are no HIV drugs left at the port. All such medications were cleared in April," he confirmed.
