The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is set to benefit from a solar energy intervention aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply and improving healthcare delivery. The pledge was made by Honourable Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, Member of Parliament, during the opening session of the hospital’s 2024 Annual Performance Review.

Dr. Vanderpuije, who chaired the event, revealed that a technical team would meet with hospital management next week to initiate the deployment of a solar power system. The project is expected to mitigate the impact of power outages on essential medical services, particularly in critical care units.

Themed “Comprehensive KBTH Performance Assessment Towards Value-Based Patient-Centred Care,” this year’s review focused on evaluating the hospital’s achievements and identifying areas for improvement. In his address, Dr. Vanderpuije emphasized the need for a renewed commitment to patient-focused, value-driven care at Ghana’s leading referral hospital.

“There is a growing expectation from the people for us to deliver quality care,” he said. “We must align ourselves with clear objectives and a shared vision to overcome challenges that threaten our progress.”

He also commended the dedication of healthcare workers at KBTH, acknowledging their resilience amid systemic difficulties. “Our healthcare workers are doing tremendous work, and it is only right that we, as a government and a people, rally behind them,” he added.

Concluding his remarks, Dr. Vanderpuije reaffirmed his support for the hospital, stating, “Korle Bu carries the hopes of many. I commend the hospital for the good work being done and assure you of my continued advocacy to meet your needs in every possible way.”
