In response to growing concerns about the adverse effects of certain energy drinks on kidney health, Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for the Builsa South constituency, has urged health professionals to intensify awareness campaigns.

Dr. Apaak cautioned that the misuse and abuse of these beverages, prevalent in local markets, could significantly contribute to the increasing incidence of kidney diseases, particularly among young individuals.

Highlighting the lack of awareness regarding the potential dangers posed by these drinks, Dr. Apaak emphasized that many people consume them excessively without understanding the associated health risks.

“We need concerted efforts, both from the health sector and lawmakers, to tackle this urgent issue,” he stressed.

Dr. Apaak’s remarks coincided with his generous donation of GHS 5,000.00 towards the establishment of a much-needed Dialysis Center at the Upper East Regional Hospital.

This contribution aims to ease the burden of managing kidney diseases in the region, providing vital support to affected individuals.

Expressing gratitude for Dr. Apaak’s donation, Emmanuel Akatibo, a Physician Assistant and advocate for the Dialysis Center initiative, highlighted the significance of the contribution in advancing the center's establishment. He pledged to ensure its efficient utilization for the community’s benefit.

In addition to expressing gratitude, Akatibo committed to leading advocacy efforts to educate the public about kidney health awareness and preventive measures.

He stressed the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes in reducing the prevalence of kidney diseases, promising to prioritize community education and outreach initiatives.
