National Policy Dialogue Held to Revamp Ghana’s Healthcare Workforce

ACCRA, Ghana — The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has held a National Policy Dialogue aimed at tackling the critical challenges facing Ghana’s healthcare workforce. The two-day event, held under the theme “Transforming Ghana’s Health Workforce for UHC: Align, Invest, and Sustain,” brought together key stakeholders to strategize on building a more resilient and equitable health system.
The dialogue focused on addressing persistent issues such as the unequal distribution of health workers, skill shortages, and the growing trend of emigration among healthcare professionals. Stakeholders also examined ways to clarify roles within the healthcare delivery system, enhance the efficiency of the health workforce job market, and ensure long-term financing for Human Resources for Health (HRH).
According to health officials, the overarching goal of the dialogue was to forge a national consensus on policy reforms that would lead to a well-staffed, adequately trained, and fairly distributed health workforce—an essential foundation for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Ghana.
