The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, has announced that the NIA will begin an exercise to register children between the ages of six and 14 starting June 10, 2024. Prof. Attafuah made this announcement during a media engagement in Kumasi on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

The registration exercise, which is free of charge, will be conducted in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in schools nationwide to ensure an effective outcome.

"This exercise, starting on June 10, 2024, is specifically for children aged six to 14 who are not yet 15 years old," Prof. Attafuah stated during the interview.

He clarified that this will not be a mass registration like previous exercises and will not include card replacement services or registration for adults, even those working at the schools.

Parents will need to bring their children's birth certificates or passports to the registration centers at their children's schools. In cases where these documents are not available, parents or guardians can act as guarantors to help register the children.

The NIA plans to conduct the registration in approximately 170 districts across the country, particularly in districts that have National Health Insurance Authority offices. Prof. Attafuah emphasized that teachers in the various schools will receive necessary training to assist with the process.

Additionally, the NIA is preparing its officers to handle the registration process smoothly without disrupting regular school activities.

This initiative aims to ensure that all eligible children are registered and included in the national identification system.
