On Monday, June 24, doctors at the Oncology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) ceased operations in the Consulting Room due to a malfunctioning radiotherapy machine, which has been out of service since October 2023. The Water Phantom unit, essential for measuring radiation doses, is the component that has been faulty.

"This component is crucial for the radiation process," an anonymous doctor informed 3news.com.

The Outpatient Department for Oncology had over a dozen patients waiting. "Only the Head of Department and one clinician are currently attending to the patients; the other doctors did not work," a nurse at the Oncology Department told Evans-Nkum.

In a phone conversation with the CEO of KATH, just before he entered a board meeting, he stated, "A letter of credit has been raised to address the issue. We have discussed this with the doctors, and we hope they understand the situation," assured Prof. Addai-Mensah.
