The Disease Surveillance Department of the Public Health Division, with support from The Global Fund, has conducted a two-day Trainer-of-Trainers workshop aimed at building the capacity of clinicians and public health staff from major hospitals. The training, held in Koforidua, focused on enhancing the implementation of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR), with particular emphasis on Mpox and other priority diseases.

Opening the workshop, Dr. Dennis Laryea underscored the importance of bridging the gap between clinical care and public health to ensure more coordinated and effective responses to health threats. Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Damien Punguyire, encouraged participants to translate the knowledge gained into improved coordination and timely responses across all levels of the health system.

The sessions were led by experts from the Public Health Division, the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre (GIDC), Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Health Promotion Division, and the National Public Health Laboratory. Topics covered included disease surveillance, sample management, risk communication, and event-based reporting.

The workshop concluded with a strong commitment from participants to reinforce frontline efforts in detecting and responding to public health threats in Ghana.
