Upper West Regional Health Directorate and AGAMal Mark World Malaria Day 2025 at Busa

The Upper West Regional Health Directorate, in collaboration with AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control (AGAMal), held a one-day durbar at Busa in the Wa Municipality to commemorate World Malaria Day 2025. The event, which took place on Friday, April 25, brought together key stakeholders including traditional authorities, health officials, and community members in a collective call to action against malaria.
The durbar was graced by the Paramount Chief of the Busa Traditional Area, Naa Alhaji Ali Seidu Pelpuo Yelmaana, along with Queen Mothers, Assembly Members, Ghana Health Service (GHS) staff, AGAMal personnel, and other dignitaries.
In his address, Dr. Collins Boateng Danquah, Deputy Director of Public Health, expressed heartfelt gratitude to AGAMal for its longstanding support, and to the Busa community for their hospitality and strong presence. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration in the fight against malaria and urged all stakeholders to remain committed to the cause.
Naa Alhaji Seidu Pelpuo Yelmaana, who chaired the event, welcomed the initiative and affirmed his community's dedication to health development. He also appealed to the Ghana Health Service to upgrade the Busa Health Centre into a Polyclinic, citing the increasing healthcare needs of the area.
Representing the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Walid Adams conveyed the Minister’s regrets for being unable to attend due to official duties. He commended the organizers for their efforts and reaffirmed the Regional Coordinating Council’s support for public health programs in the region.
Dr. Alex Bapula, Municipal Director of Health Services, acknowledged the chief's appeal and pledged to advocate for the health centre’s upgrade at the regional level. He also thanked the community for their active participation.
The event featured free medical screening services, including checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index (BMI), underscoring a broader commitment to public health beyond malaria prevention.
The commemoration served as a powerful reminder of the region’s united front in tackling malaria and improving overall community health.
