Ruth Sally Kodam: a true hero in the field of nursing and midwifery. Ruth Sally is a Senior Midwifery Officer at Tema General Hospital, Ghana. With over 16 years of practice experience in nursing and midwifery, Ruth Sally's journey started with basic nursing training at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital before completing her BSc in Midwifery in 2015, where she was part of the pioneer class of the midwifery program at KNUST.
Over the years, Ruth Sally's passion has evolved from the clinical setting to population health. She has extended her skills from bedside care to empowering the Ghanaian public about obstetric and gynecological issues through education, with a strong emphasis on decreasing maternal mortality in the country. Her motivation for embarking on education is to provide information for safe delivery and to reduce the many preventable maternal related deaths in Ghana. Ruth Sally's advocacy for maternal health led to the founding of maternal health advocacy platforms on various social media networks, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Tiktok, with the name Midwife Sally.
Through these platforms, Ruth Sally provides education and support to expectant mothers, advocating for better health conditions for Ghanaian women and their children. Her impact has extended beyond Ghana, with over 300,000 followers worldwide benefiting from her online services, Pregnancy School, health education, and an e-book.
In addition to her advocacy work, Ruth Sally is also the author of "Sally's Tips for Expectant Mums," a book designed to help women get the basic information they need to prevent maternal complications. Her impact has been felt across multiple platforms in Ghana, including Adom FM, STAR FM, ETV, Amansan TV, and the Association of African University TV. Ruth Sally's passion for maternal health has also led her to conduct research work that has been published in recognized journals. In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to nursing and healthcare, Ruth Sally received The Daisy Award , The Health Heroes Awards and was inducted into the Oxygen African Health Hall of Fame.
